About Robert Lawson Butt – Your Business English Coach

For 28 years I have been coaching entrepreneurs and executives on their way to confident, convincing English – as a native-speaker English coach in Hamburg, with a feel for the demands of everyday business.

I was born in Karachi to English parents and grew up in the West of England. I studied in Oxford and graduated in Art and Design. In the early eighties I came to Germany and settled in Hamburg, where I first worked as a glass designer for Tiffany glass art. However, I only found my calling during my training as a Business English coach and trainer, which I began in 1998.

Language coach for executives since 1998

I have been working as a Business English coach and trainer since 1998. Alongside coaching, I have held numerous seminars and workshops, including for Commerzbank AG and Reemtsma Cigarettenfabriken GmbH. Today I focus on individual Business English coaching for executives.

My clients come from a wide range of industries. I know the language requirements that apply there, and I know how little time people in leadership positions often have. That is why we practise exactly the situations that matter to you right now: a negotiation, a presentation or small talk on the fringes of a conference.

What is your coaching philosophy?

My aim is for you to use English confidently in your everyday working life. That is why you speak and practise a lot in the coaching – based on situations that are relevant to your work. Together we develop phrases that suit you and build up your confidence step by step.

What experience do you have in coaching executives?

I work with executives who have to conduct important business conversations in English – for example negotiations for the sale of a company, expansion into new markets or cooperation with international partners.
